The nine rules
- Choose your ruleset like a contract. No free move to another ruleset has been announced, and you can only group with players on the same one. Pick your ruleset.
- Take the free gathering manual. A quest in your starting zone offers a choice of three manuals: Mining, Skinning or Herbalism. Each one teaches the profession and gives 2 skill points. One choice per character, according to one guide.
- Do your race's bag quest. Every starting zone has a quest that rewards a 6-slot bag, usually by level 7, according to one guide. Free bags by race.
- Learn First Aid and Cooking in your first town. First Aid now makes your healing potions as well as bandages, and cooked food can give +5% XP from kills. First Aid potions · XP bonuses.
- Set your hearthstone at the first inn. You log out there with rested XP building up, and logout in an inn is instant, according to one guide.
- Grab every flight path you walk past. Missing one costs a long walk later.
- Bind your abilities and your potions early. Clicking costs you fights.
- Collect dungeon quests before you enter. Dungeons pay mostly through their quests, once. Dungeon quests first.
- Don't spend every coin on spell ranks. Riding at 40 costs 100 gold plus 20 for the mount. Riding budget.
Good to know
- Your first character to reach level 25 unlocks the Legacy system.
- A rare mob drops better loot than its neighbours: the WoW Forever rares list gives each one's spots and drops.
- Playing a Hunter? Your trainer's "Taming the Beast" quest gives you your first pet: the Hunter pets list shows every family and its abilities.
- At level 14, start the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain: rest anywhere, and a 12-slot bag.
- No group finder: you find groups through the listing board. How to find a group.
"Nine rules, zero excuses. Now go make some money, friend."
