Key

Crescent Key (from Pusillin, Dire Maul East).

Classic data, to verify

Five pylons to switch off, a monster behind them and a prince who won't share his library. Elves never learned to share. Goblins never learned to ask.

Classic data — updated at Forever's launch

Dire Maul West is not playable in the beta (level cap 30). The description below follows the original game's version of this dungeon; we check each point in game at launch and update this page.

Who it's for

  • Level range: sources disagree (56-60 or 60).
  • Both factions: Elven Legends has an Alliance giver and a Horde giver (per player comments, one source).
  • Several classes: class book quests and two epic mount steps (Warlock, Paladin) pass through this wing in the original game.
  • Group: 5 players.

The route, in plain words

In the original game:

  1. Tendris Warpwood. Clear the treant trash first.
  2. Magister Kalendris. The rare Tsu'zee can spawn near him with two adds.
  3. Illyanna Ravenoak, then Ferra.
  4. The pylons. Five to clear: three before Immol'thar, two in his room.
  5. Immol'thar. Lord Hel'nurath can be summoned at his spot by warlocks (one source).
  6. Prince Tortheldrin, the final boss.

In the original game, the West and North wings share an instance: a lower door near Guard Mol'dar connects them. The entrance location and the Forever boss list are not settled (one Forever source gives 64.9, 29.4 for Dire Maul).

The bosses in one line each

  • Tendris Warpwood (60 elite): Entangle, Grasping Vines, Trample, Uppercut.
  • Magister Kalendris (59 elite): Dominate Mind (save an interrupt), Mind Blast, Mind Flay, Shadow Word: Pain, Shadowform.
  • Tsu'zee (rare, 59 elite): Backstab, Gouge, and Blind on the healer.
  • Illyanna Ravenoak (60 elite): Aimed Shot, Concussive Shot, Immolation Trap, Volley; kill her before Ferra.
  • Immol'thar (61 elite): kill the Eyes of Immol'thar (stacking slow); his portal drops a random player into the arena from above (fall damage). Also Enrage, Infected Bite, Trample.
  • Lord Hel'nurath (optional, warlock only, 62 elite): summoned for the warlock epic mount; banish the demon waves (one source).
  • Prince Tortheldrin (61 elite): his Arcane Blast resets aggro; Counterspell, Summon, Thrash, Whirlwind; tank him near a wall.

Quests to grab before you go

Original-game list; levels and rewards still to check:

  • Elven Legends (level 60; a comment says 54 earlier): Scholar Runethorn (Alliance) or Sage Korolusk (Horde). Find Kariel Winthalus in the library. It unlocks the Libram turn-ins.
  • The Madness Within (56): from the Shen'dralar Ancient inside the dungeon. Kill Immol'thar and Prince Tortheldrin. It leads to The Treasure of the Shen'dralar: Backwood Helm, Bonecrusher or Sedge Boots.
  • Warlocks: Dreadsteed of Xoroth, from Mor'zul Bloodbringer in Burning Steppes (summon Lord Hel'nurath here).
  • Paladins: Ancient Equine Spirit, a step of the epic mount chain.
  • Class books: found in Dusty Tomes or boss drops, one per class; each gives a Royal Seal of Eldre'Thalas.
  • For the North wing: the Gauntlet of Gordok Might for Unfinished Gordok Business is in the chest behind Prince Tortheldrin.

Watch out

  • No pylons, no kill: Immol'thar can't be killed until all five are cleared.
  • Access: the Crescent Key requirement is not confirmed for Forever.
  • Loot: one guide lists Season of Discovery items (such as Diabolic Mantle) that may not exist in Forever. No source ranks any item here as best-in-slot.
  • Quest bugs: player comments on Wowhead report an "already completed" bug on Unfinished Gordok Business (unverified).
