Classic data — updated at Forever's launch
Dire Maul East is not playable in the beta (level cap 30). The description below follows the original game's version of this dungeon; we check each point in game at launch and update this page.
Who it's for
- Level range: sources disagree (54-60 or 58-60).
- Both factions: Lethtendris's Web has an Alliance giver and a Horde giver. One source marks the rewards of Shards of the Felvine as Alliance-only.
- Group: 5 players.
The route, in plain words
In the original game, the order is:
- Pusillin, an imp with four imp guards. He drops the Crescent Key.
- Lethtendris, with her imp Pimgib.
- Hydrospawn, who patrols the central pool.
- Zevrim Thornhoof.
- Alzzin the Wildshaper, the final boss. A tunnel shortcut leads out afterwards.
Isalien is an optional boss summoned with the Brazier of Beckoning (one source). The Forever order is unknown, and the entrance location is not settled (see the FAQ).
The bosses in one line each
- Pusillin: Blast Wave, Fire Blast and Fireball; interrupt him and AoE the imps.
- Lethtendris: curses (Thorns, Tongues), Enlarge, Immolate, Shadow Bolt Volley and Void Bolt; control or kill Pimgib first.
- Hydrospawn: Hydrojet, Massive Geyser, Riptide and Submersion, and he summons Hydrolings.
- Zevrim Thornhoof: Sacrifice takes one player out and hurts them, with Intense Pain; stand at max range.
- Alzzin the Wildshaper: shifts between satyr, bear and dire wolf, heals in tree form, and calls imps at low health.
- Isalien (optional): interrupt her heals.
Quests to grab before you go
Original-game list; levels and rewards still to check:
- Lethtendris's Web (level 54 or 57, sources disagree): Latronicus Moonspear (Alliance) or Talo Thornhoof (Horde) in Feralas. Bring Lethtendris's Web. Reward: Lorespinner and 150 Alliance reputation.
- Pusillin and the Elder Azj'Tordin (level 54 or 58): from Azj'Tordin at Lariss Pavilion, Feralas.
- Shards of the Felvine (level 56 or 60): from Rabine Saturna. Rewards: Milli's Lexicon or Milli's Shield.
- Mages: Arcane Refreshment, from Lorekeeper Lydros: bring Hydrospawn Essence for the top rank of Conjure Water.
- Lord Valthalak's Amulet pieces also pass through here (one source).
Watch out
- The Crescent Key from Pusillin opens the West and North wings in the original game; rogue lockpicking (300) or Seaforium charges also work. Forever requirement not confirmed.
- Loot: Forever reworked dungeon loot in general (one source), so the original drop lists may change. No source ranks any item here as best-in-slot.
- Experience: in Forever, dungeon experience moved mostly to quest chains; repeat runs give little (one source, general rule).
FAQ
- Where is the Dire Maul East entrance?
- Dire Maul is in Feralas. One Forever source gives 64.9, 29.4; Classic guides put the main gate around 59, 45 in central Feralas, with a back entrance under Lariss Pavilion in the east. The two don't match: we check in game at launch.
- What level should you be for Dire Maul East?
- Sources disagree: 54-60 or 58-60. One source gives Group Finder access at level 54 and entry from level 31.
- Does Dire Maul East still drop the Crescent Key?
- In Classic, Pusillin drops the Crescent Key, which opens the West and North wings. Whether Forever still requires it is not confirmed (Classic data, to verify).
- Who is the last boss of Dire Maul East?
- Alzzin the Wildshaper, in the Classic version. The Forever boss list and order are not known yet.
