The Defias hideout under Moonbrook: mineshaft, cavern, docks and a pirate ship. 7 bosses plus Cookie; quests are Alliance only.
A mine full of thieves, a ship full of pirates, and loot for anyone brave enough to go down. My kind of place.
Who it's for
- Alliance players: all seven dungeon quests are Alliance quests, from Westfall and Stormwind.
- Horde players can come for the loot, but get none of the quests.
The route, in plain words
- The mine shaft. Rhahk'Zor is the first boss. Miner Johnson, a rare boss that doesn't always spawn, is on the left at the junction past the door Rhahk'Zor guards.
- The goblins. Sneed and his shredder, then Gilnid, whose room holds the detonator for Destruction in Deadmines.
- The cavern and the docks. Mr. Smite comes before the ship.
- The ship. Captain Greenskin patrols the upper deck, VanCleef waits in his cabin, Cookie is at the back of the ship. The exit is a tunnel at the back.
Boss order as given by the beta guides; we check it in game at launch.
The bosses in one line each
- Rhahk'Zor: his slam stuns the tank. Pull his two guards first.
- Sneed: kill the shredder, then Sneed jumps out. He disarms the tank.
- Gilnid: kill or control the goblin engineer first: his robots die with him.
- Mr. Smite: stuns the whole group at two health marks and switches weapons. Keep your cooldowns for the end.
- Captain Greenskin: kill the caster next to him first. Melee stand behind him (cleave).
- Edwin VanCleef: kill his two guards first, then expect more at half health. Save one control spell for them.
- Cookie (optional): interrupt his cooking, it heals him.
Quests to grab before you go
Take these before entering, or you'll run it twice:
- Westfall (Sentinel Hill): The Defias Brotherhood (end of a long chain: finish the earlier steps first) and Red Silk Bandanas.
- Westfall, new in Forever: Destruction in Deadmines, last step of a chain that starts with Testing the Wells. Sources disagree on where its giver stands (Sentinel Hill or the dungeon exit): to verify.
- Stormwind (Dwarven District): Underground Assault, Oh Brother... and Collecting Memories. The last two are done outside the dungeon.
- VanCleef drops An Unsent Letter for everyone in the group. Don't sell it: it starts a long chain that leads to the Stockade.
Watch out
- Greenskin patrols the upper deck and is easy to pull by accident.
- Stealthed guards wait with Mr. Smite and in VanCleef's cabin.
- Experience: in the beta, most dungeon experience comes from quest turn-ins; kill experience was raised by about 20% on Oct 8.
FAQ
- Where is the Deadmines entrance in WoW Forever?
- In Moonbrook, in the south of Westfall: the Defias Hideout, inside a house in the south-west corner of the village. Sources give slightly different coordinates, so we check the exact spot in game at launch.
- What level should you be for the Deadmines?
- Sources from the beta disagree (from 15-22 up to 17-26). The bosses are level 19 to 21 in the beta. We confirm the range in game at launch.
- Can the Horde run the Deadmines?
- Yes, but all seven dungeon quests are Alliance quests, so the Horde gets loot and kill experience only. One beta source says Horde players can reach it by boat from Ratchet (to verify).
- What is the last boss of the Deadmines?
- Edwin VanCleef, on the ship at the end. Captain Greenskin and Cookie are on the same ship.
