How it works

  1. At level 6, learn Comprehend Scroll from your Mage trainer.
  2. Many creatures drop untranslated scrolls while you quest and run dungeons.
  3. Use Comprehend Scroll on them: each one becomes a one-use scroll with an effect, and your skill goes up.
  4. Mage scrolls can't be used while moving (since October 8).

Scroll types and skill

  • Scrolls come in tiers that open at skill 1, 15, 50 and 175. Higher tiers give stronger scrolls.
  • Once a tier gives no more skill-ups, move on to the next one.
  • Above level 30: Not known yet, the beta stops at level 30.

What you can get

  • Familiars that give Intellect: Rat (+2), Frog (+6), Cat (+12).
  • Weapon imbues: fire, frost and spark effects for your weapon.
  • Minor Evocation: 300 mana over 4 sec (8 min cooldown).
  • Khadgar's Unlocking: opens locked boxes (lock skill up to 125). No rogue needed.
  • Cryoblast, Confuse Beast, Rebuke Elemental and more.
  • Rare weapon scrolls: the Scroll of the Saber turns a Shadowfang Keep sword into the Coldflame Saber. → Coldflame Saber

Study at the library

  • Turn in one library book to Garion Wendell (Stormwind) or Owen Thadd (Undercity) to unlock Study. → Library books
  • Study: once per hour, at your faction's library, trade 1 Light Feather for a bundle of scrolls already deciphered. No skill-ups from it, but free effects.

Goblin tips

  • Read every scroll, even the boring ones: skill-ups now mean better scrolls later.
  • Keep a Khadgar's Unlocking scroll for lockboxes: rogues charge for that.
  • Hunting the Coldflame Saber? Every scroll you decipher is one more chance.

"Most mages sell their scrolls to the vendor. Most mages are poor, friend."

FAQ

What is Comprehension in WoW Forever?
A Mage-only skill, learned from the Mage trainer at level 6, that deciphers the untranslated scrolls dropped by many creatures. Each scroll gives a one-use effect: a buff, a familiar, a weapon imbue or a utility spell.
How do I level Comprehension fast?
Decipher every scroll you loot, and move to the next scroll type before your skill turns the current one grey. Scroll types open at skill 1, 15, 50 and 175.
How do I unlock Study?
Turn in a library book once (Stormwind or Undercity library). Study then lets you trade a Light Feather for a bundle of already deciphered scrolls, once per hour, at your faction's library.
