The three items
- Scroll of the Saber
- Blade of Silverlaine
- Coldflame Saber
| Item | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Scroll of the Saber | Mage-only scroll, binds when picked up. "Use on Blade of Silverlaine to create a powerful weapon." | Deciphered from Mage scrolls with Comprehension (rare). |
| Blade of Silverlaine | Level 21 one-handed sword, 17-33 damage, speed 2.30, +6 Shadow resistance, up to +28 spell damage and healing. Binds when picked up. | Baron Silverlaine, Shadowfang Keep. Not a sure drop. |
| Coldflame Saber | Level 21 one-handed sword, 17-32 damage, speed 2.00, +7 Intellect, up to +32 spell damage and healing. Melee attacks deal 98 extra Fire damage to Frozen targets. | Made from the two items above. |
How to convert the blade
- Learn Comprehension at your Mage trainer (level 6) and decipher the scrolls you loot until you get the Scroll of the Saber. → Mage Comprehension
- Run Shadowfang Keep and loot the Blade of Silverlaine from Baron Silverlaine. Both items bind when picked up: the Mage who has the scroll must loot the blade.
- Use the scroll on the blade. It becomes the Coldflame Saber. Level 21 to equip it.
Terms
- Comprehension: the Mage-only skill that turns untranslated scrolls into usable ones.
- Binds when picked up: the item belongs to whoever loots it, it can't be traded.
- Frozen: a target held in place by a freeze effect, for example Frost Nova. The saber's bonus only hits Frozen targets.
- Spell damage and healing: the "spell power" bonus; it makes your spells hit harder, not your sword.
To verify in game
- Whether the 98 Fire damage grows with spell power (the tooltip shows a flat number).
- How often the scroll and the blade drop.
"Every mage gets a staff. Only the clever ones get a sword, friend."
