WoW Forever addons: what works and what each one does
![]()
A goblin without tools is just a short guy in a big hat. But install the wrong gizmo and your whole UI goes boom. Here's every tool that works, what it does, and which ones fight each other.
The rules first
- Addons are allowed in WoW Forever, with the same restrictions as the current retail game: an addon can change how things look, not play for you.
- Classic addons do not load. You need the file built for WoW Forever.
- WoW Forever already has a built-in damage meter and a cooldown manager.
- Addons change fast around launch: check the date of the WoW Forever file before installing. Each card below shows the date we last saw it.
How to install
- Use the CurseForge app (or the website) and pick World of Warcraft: Forever as the game version. The app puts the files in the right folder.
- WoW Forever has its own AddOns folder, separate from your other WoW installs.
- Only download from the official page (links below), never from mirror sites.
- Some addons work in pairs: install both, or the first one does half its job. Each card says what it pairs with, and what it fights with.
Not sure where to start?
The cards marked Starter are the six we'd install on any new character: Questie, a map (OpenMap or Leatrix Maps), Leatrix Plus, Baganator, Deadly Boss Mods, and BugGrabber with BugSack.
PvE
Questing, dungeons, raids and healing.
Dungeons and raids
Boss warnings, threat and attunements.

What to avoid
- WeakAuras: No WoW Forever version: the addon rules block what it needs. Use the built-in cooldown manager or ForeverAuras.
- Shadowed Unit Frames, PitBull4: No Forever file. Use BetterBlizzFrames or a UI suite.
- OmniCC, OmniBar, OmniCD: No Forever file when we checked.
- Kui Nameplates: No Forever file. Use BetterBlizzPlates, Platynator or Plater.
- Skada, Recount: No Forever file, and the game has its own meter.
- Postal, Nova World Buffs: No Forever file when we checked.
- ForeverCompat and other code patchers: They patch the game's code and can break your spells in combat.
- Two addons doing the same job: Two maps, two nameplate addons, two bag addons, a UI suite plus separate frames, DBM plus BigWigs: they fight and break each other.
"Install six good tools, not sixty broken ones. Time is money, and loading screens are expensive."
Questions players ask
- Do Classic addons work in WoW Forever?
- No. WoW Forever uses the modern game client: you need the WoW Forever file of each addon. On CurseForge, pick World of Warcraft: Forever as the game version.
- Where is the AddOns folder for WoW Forever?
- WoW Forever has its own AddOns folder inside its own game folder, separate from your other WoW installs. The CurseForge app finds it for you when you pick World of Warcraft: Forever.
- Are addons allowed in WoW Forever?
- Yes, with the same rules as the current retail game: an addon can change how things look and what you see, not play for you.
- What is the best map addon for WoW Forever?
- OpenMap if you want one continuous world map with everything on it; Leatrix Maps if you want something light. Never both.
- Do BetterBlizzFrames and BetterBlizzPlates work in WoW Forever?
- Yes. Both have a WoW Forever file on CurseForge (checked on October 24, 2026). One improves the unit frames, the other the nameplates.
- Is there WeakAuras in WoW Forever?
- No. Use the built-in cooldown manager, or ForeverAuras, still in development.
- Why do my addon settings not save?
- Settings are written when you log out or reload. If the game crashes or you close it from the Task Manager, recent changes are lost: type /reload after changing settings.
